"I'm sorry, Commander"
―Vaughn's last words
This is a Class 1 article.

Vaughn, born with the designation of CT-0292, was a clone trooper captain who served in the Grand Army of the Republic. He led the 332nd Company of the 332nd Division, itself half of the 501st Legion, under the lead of the recently promoted Commander Rex. He died during the Siege of Mandalore while pursuing Mandalorians within the undercity.[1]

History[]

Vaughn was born around 32 BBY[3] on the water planet of Kamino, cloned from the genetic template of the infamous bounty hunter Jango Fett.[2] Vaughn was eventually assigned to serve in the 501st Legion,[1] and likely fought in numerous battles under the leadership of Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano.[note 2]

By 19 BBY, Vaughn would be given the rank of Captain and placed in the 332nd Company, under the leadership of Advisor Ahsoka Tano and Commander Rex. The company was created so that Tano could assist the Nite Owls in the Siege of Mandalore to capture the rogue Sith Lord Maul,[1] while Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker could return to Coruscant to rescue the Supreme Chancellor.[1][4]

Vaughn and the company deployed to the planet via Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunships. Maul's contingent of Mandalorians, the Shadow Collective, countered by began sabotaging their gunships and kicking troopers out of their holds. Vaughn, at some point, jumped from the ship, propelled with a jetpack.[1]

He landed in the city alongside several members of his company, capturing the docks of Sundari. Vaughn witnessed Maul's lieutenant, Gar Saxon, retreat into the undercity, and pursued him with a unit of troopers. Once they reached the tunnels, they lost the Mandalorian, calling Tano to come and assist in the search.[1]

After Tano's arrival, the small detachment of the 332nd began to investigate the tunnels. However, while they investigated, Tano began to sense that it was a trap. Before she could warn the unit, one of the Mandalorians in hiding opened fire. The clones took the bait, with Tano attempting to stop them. The troopers did not listen, and one by one, they were all shot down. When Tano reached Vaughn, he had been shot in the chest. Vaughn apologized to her for his mistake and died holding her hand.[1]

Personality and Traits[]

Vaughn was a clone of Jango Fett and likely possessed the same physical traits as most other Fett clones, including a height of 1.83 meters, black hair, and brown eyes.[2]

In spite of the fact that Ahsoka Tano was no longer an official Jedi Commander in the Grand Army of the Republic, Vaughn still referred to her as such, an indication of his loyalty and respect for her. Vaughn led his men from the front and was eager to jump into battle, which resulted in his death.[1]

Armor and Equipment[]

Vaughn possessed Phase II clone trooper armor with the typical blue markings of the 501st. His helmet was also painted orange to match Ahsoka Tano's facial tattoos as a sign of respect to her. His helmet had a specialized visor, with antennae adorning his helmet and shoulder. During his time on Mandalore, he equipped a single floodlight over his visor alongside the rest of his unit, as it was needed to clear the Mandalorian tunnels. A rank insignia was on his chest plate, and he utilized a smaller jetpack than was standard.[note 3] In battle, he carried a DC-15A blaster rifle.[1]

Notes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 Star Wars: Galactic Atlas establishes that the Battle of Coruscant takes place in 19 BBY. Since the Siege of Mandalore takes place concurrently to the Battle of Coruscant as established by the episode "Old Friends Not Forgotten", it must also take place in 19 BBY.
  2. In "Old Friends Not Forgotten", Vaughn respectfully addresses Ahsoka Tano as a Jedi Commander despite her having already left the Jedi Order and GAR, suggesting previous service with her.
  3. In concept art, Vaughn's armor design was identified as being a re-skin of Commander Cody's. The device on Cody's back has been identified as a small jetpack.
