Tark Squad was a squad of clone commandos deployed in the Grand Army of the Republic. However, unlike a majority of commando squads, the members of Tark Squad were cloned from Thysrian genetic material, while a majority of the Grand Army was cloned from Jango Fett's material.

In 32 BBY, the Grand Army of the Republic was commissioned, with the cloning process beginning during that time. A majority of the clones were created with the genetic template of Jango Fett, a Mandalorian bounty hunter. However, the troopers of Tark Squad were cloned from a Thyrsian individual, differentiating them from the Fett clones. The commandos were trained by one of the 25 non-Mandalorian members of the Cuy'val Dar, a Thyrsus Sun Guard named Sarsius Torne, who trained them as infiltrators of the Grand Army rather than its soldiers.[1][2] Once the Clone Wars started in 22 BBY, Tark Squad had been deployed to First Battle of Geonosis, with the squad surviving the encounter, making them a rare unit.[3]

In 21 BBY, the squad was deployed to serve under Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Halagad Ventor on the planet of Skye. In actuality, the squad were Thyrsian mercenaries trained by Torne to infiltrate the Grand Army of the Republic as part of a deal made with Zeta Magnus and Palpatine to recover Anakin Skywalker. To ensure their compliance, Tark Squad was implanted with cybernetic control bands.[1] The commando unit were sent to Skye to assist Kenobi in liberating the planet from Zeta Magnus, hiding the fact that the unit worked for Magnus.[1] Tark Squad and the rest of the liberation team snuck into Zeta Magnus' fortress through Entyrmion's subterranean tunnel system located beneath the fortress. While in the cave, the liberation team was attacked by multiple Oskan blood eaters created by Zeta Magnus which killed many of their S'kytri guides as well as the Lord of the S'Kytri Highland Clans, Lord Klarymére. Captain Nilo killed the blood eaters with a Class-D detonator which angered Obi-Wan, as he believed it was "affront to the force". When the liberation team arrived in Zeta Magnus' fortress, Tark Squad led the Jedi Commanders into a field of R-TechApp Man Traps that magnetised his Jedi Commanders to the ground.[1] Tark Squad revealed to the Jedi Commanders that they were allied with Zeta Magnus and left them to be tortured by Zeta Magnus and his torture droid. Eventually, the Jedi escaped, with Tark Squad returning to engage with them in battle. Nilo was killed in the fortress when he was vaporised by a Class-D detonator used by Jedi Commanders Anakin Skywalker and Halagad Ventor after he and his squad attempted to betray them.[1] Quo was beheaded in the battle by Ventor, while Kupe was crushed by a wall being forced down by Skywalker. Xoni was killed in the battle as well, by Kenobi and Skywalker.[1]

Armor and Equipment[]

The commandos were equipped with standard equipment, including Katarn-class commando armor, class-D detonators, garrotes, gauntlet vibroblades, and DC-17m Interchangeable Weapon Systems. In addition to their gear, the commandos of Tark Squad were equipped with flamethrowers.[1] The commandos were also likely equipped with DC-15s side arm blasters.[4]
