Spade was an Advanced Recon Commando that served in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars.

Spade was born in 32 BBY on the water planet of Kamino, cloned from the genetic template of Jango Fett.[1][2] Spade was given basic training as well as specialized training and eventually graduated, being deployed into the Grand Army of the Republic.

In 21.75 BBY, Spade and his unit crash-landed and were abandoned on the planet of Pengalan IV alongside several other ARCs and a Republic accountant named Joram Kithe. When Kithe awoke and revealed that he had been commissioned as a Republic Intelligence lieutenant, Spade was one of the first troopers to speak to him.[3]

Kithe realized that the ARCs relied heavily on procedure and protocol, which worried him. Because of that, he attempted to pass on a sense of individuality to each of them, giving them names based on certain activities or attributes they possessed. Spade, for instance, gained his nickname due to the fact that he was digging graves for their crashed gunship pilots. When Kithe awoke, Spade was leaning on his shovel and began to talk to him.[3]

After making their way toward the nearest village on the planet, which was called Tur Lorkin, and covertly infiltrating a starship bay, Kithe and ARC trooper Tooth realized that the village was a ploy for a diamond boron missile manufacturing facility. Following that, Spade, Tooth, Kithe, and the rest of the group - Mapper, Hash, Digger, Spots, and Wrench - began to make their way towards completing their original task, after convincing Kithe.[3] Tooth stole a Corellian starship to distract the Separatist's aerial forces while Kithe and the others escaped. Hash was placed on point in the assault of the facility. However, he was killed by a storm of blaster fire when they exited a turbo lift.[3] Spade would also be killed in the battle. However, due to their sacrifices, Kithe, Mapper, Digger, Spots, and Wrench managed to escape.[3]
