Mort was a clone commando who served in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars.
History[]
Mort was born in 32 BBY on the water planet of Kamino,[2] cloned from the genetic template of the infamous bounty hunter Jango Fett.[1] Mort received intensive training and served on numerous fronts.
In 19 BBY, Mort and his squad were deployed to the planet of Kashyyyk, ordered to destroy an enemy command bunker deep within the enemy territory. As a commando unit, they were more than adept at handling this task. The squad managed to blow the base up and retreat the extraction point. However, they were quickly attacked by enemy forces.[3]
The unit was highly capable to destroy the enemy and make it back to the extraction point and informed their commanding officer of this. While fighting off their enemies, they called for extraction, only to see the Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry that had been waiting for them, taking off without them. Their commander, who was a non-clone named Morkov, had given the order for the LAAT/i as to not risk the carrier and because he saw the squad as expendable.[3]
Because they were left behind, Mort and his brothers attempted to rendezvous with the other Republic forces on the ground. However, due to their location in the forest, this proved nearly impossible. Over the following weeks, Mort would experience the deaths of each of his brothers to wildlife, lingering enemies, and the planet's harsh forces of nature.[3]
For months, possibly even years, Mort lost track of time. He was forced to survive in the jungle of Kashyyyk until one day he was forced to fight for food with one of the planet's animal inhabitants and lost his arm. Believing his injury was fatal, he laid on his back, bleeding out, and prepared himself for death.[3]
As he lay bleeding out, he was discovered by a third party - a research team led by Doctor Ortoz. His life was saved but a very unfortunate cost. Replacing Mort's arm with a prosthetic arm, Ortoz began to see Mort as having intense potential and began to conduct a series of gruesome experiments on him. Eventually, Mort regained enough strength to permanently stop the experiments, likely killing Ortoz in the process. After he managed to sneak aboard a freighter and made his way to Dearic, the capital city of the planet Talus, where he would frequent the local cantina and drown sorrows in alcoholic beverages.[3]
Over the years, Mort had grown a hatred for Morkov for what he did with abandoning him and his brothers and wanted nothing more than to see his former commander dead. He had once tracked down Morkov, however, found out that he was a high-ranking official in the Empire, which had come to power during his time of Kashyyyk. Realizing his attempt at revenge would be futile, he gave up on his vengeance.[3]
However, one day, Mort met an individual at the Dearic Cantina who showed an interest in his past. The spacer sympathized with Mort's tale and offered to assist in extending his services in exacting revenge on Morkov. Years had passed, and Morkov had become an illegal arms dealer, selling smuggled Imperial weapons to the highest bidder, basing his operation out of Keren on Naboo. After meeting with Morkov, the spacer acquired evidence of his illicit operations and returned to meet with Mort once more. Mort knew that the spacer was apart of something bigger than himself and told him to take the intel to his higher-ups. Not long after, the spacer returned with information about Morkov's death. Mort, who was touched by the act of a stranger who helped him achieve's his final goal, gave the spacer his old Katarn-class commando armor, which he no longer needed. Mort asked his new friend to come back and visit him someday and let him know. Mort had also indicated that he would cut back on his drinking and straighten himself out.[3]
Personality and Traits[]
Mort was born from the Jango Fett genome, which was granted a height of 1.83 meters, black hair, and brown eyes.[1] Mort was eventually deployed to the planet of Kashyyyk, where he would lose his arm. At some point, Ortoz found him and replaced it with a prosthetic limb, as well as installing several cybernetic enhancements. Ortoz experimented on Mort, which resulted in him looking much younger, likely reversing the advanced aging that the Kaminoans had installed into their genetic code. In 1 ABY, he looked to be in his prime though he would have been in his mid-60s by this time with the advanced aging.[3]
Armor and Equipment[]
Mort was also equipped with Katarn-class commando armor, which had specific colored markings. He was likely given a DC-17m Interchangeable Weapon System, as well as a DC-15s side arm blaster and a plethora of grenades. The commando later became a civilian, though he held on to his equipment years later.[3]
