Lancer Battalion was a specialized battalion that served in the Grand Army of the Republic during the early stages of the Clone Wars.
History
Lancer Battalion was created in 32 BBY when the Grand Army of the Republic was commissioned.[1] The battalion received basic training, as well as specialized intensive training for the highly specific task they were assigned in the GAR, eventually graduating. Typically, the battalion and similar units were used to distract the enemy from advancing turbolaser batteries.[2] Like a typical battalion, the Lancer Battalion likely consisted of 576 troopers and officers.[2]
In 22 BBY, the battalion was deployed to the planet of Muunilinst. While the initial force was fighting against the Separatist forces, a trooper, known as Able-472, warned Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi of the incoming Separatist forces.[3] Specifically, special droid forces including IG lancer droids, being led by the bounty hunter Durge.[3]
Kenobi ordered the Lancer Battalion to mount up, going forth to attack the incoming forces. However, this advance proved to be extremely dangerous, resulting in the deaths of several troopers within the unit. Eventually, Kenobi defeated Durge in an initial strike, with the rest of the troopers facing up against the lancer droids.[3]
Armor and Equipment
The Lancer Battalion was equipped with standard Phase I clone trooper armor, which was unusual for a unit with such a volatile nature. The battalion was also equipped with no blaster weapons, however, they were given Verpine power-lances.[2][3] The unit would also drive Aratech 105-K lancer bikes.[2]
