Knuckles was a clone trooper that served in the Grand Army of the Republic, assigned and deployed in the 182nd Legion. Knuckles was deployed to the planet of Belgaroth, alongside Sergeant Marrt's squad.[3]

Knuckles was born in 32 BBY on the water planet of Kamino,[2] cloned from the genetic template of the infamous Mandalorian bounty hunter known as Jango Fett.[1] Knuckles received basic training and eventually graduated, being assigned to serve in the 182nd Legion.[3] During his training, he earned his nickname due to his interest in using hand-to-hand combat.[3]

Between 22 BBY and 21 BBY,[4] Knuckles participated in a reconnaissance mission to the planet of Belgaroth, on behalf of the Republic. The unit went to investigate rumors of Republic Czerka factory's dealings with the Separatists.[3] A squad from the 182nd, consisting of Knuckles, Sergeant Marrt, Chatter, and Recon, was deployed to the planet and began traveling toward the factory. Upon reaching the facility, Marrt entered the factory and left the rest of the squad hidden. The sergeant found out that the head of the factory, Tarin, was supplying Reep Tonith of the InterGalactic Banking Clan with illegal FEX-M3 nerve gas grenades.[3]

Marrt managed to steal a grenade as evidence for the Republic and tried to leave unnoticed. However, a battle droid witnessed him leaving and they began to open fire at Marrt and his squad. The squad fell back into the swamp. The swamp was covered in fog which limited the unit's ability to see. However, a screech was heard throughout the swamp. Knuckles thought that more droids had found them, however, Recon deduced that the noise was coming from something much bigger than a droid. A creature, which was simply known as the droidbreaker, attacked Recon and threw him into a nearby tree.[3]

Chatter began to fire frantically in the general direction of the creature, while Knuckles went to check on Recon. However, Recon was killed upon impact with the tree. Chatter was soon thereafter killed by the creature as well. Knuckles jumped on the creature and beat the droidbreaker with his fists. However, Knuckles knew that he would not be able to defeat the creature. He told Marrt to run, while he held the creature off. Unfortunately, the creature would kill Knuckles, but allowed Marrt to retreat and formulate a plan, killing the droidbreaker with the nerve gas grenade. After killing the creature, he buried his three fallen brothers under the creature's head. Determined to avenge their deaths, Marrt attacked the factory alone, burning the facility to the ground, as well as capturing Tarin.[3]

Personality and Traits[]

Knuckles was a clone of Jango Fett, which meant he possessed a height of 1.83 meters, black hair, and brown eyes.[1] Knuckles' hair was a bit unusual, as he shaved his hair on the sides, leaving a mohawk style, as well as dying it a light brown.[3] Knuckles also had a fascination with hand-to-hand combat, which is what earned him his nickname.

Armor and Equipment[]

Knuckles possessed Phase I clone trooper armor, which was outfitted with red markings, which were the signature color of the 182nd Legion. The trooper possessed a DC-15S blaster carbine.

  4. In the framing story for A Trooper's Tale, Ahsoka Tano appears in her original costume from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, indicating that the comic takes place prior to the episode "Heroes on Both Sides," in which she receives a new outfit to signify the passage of time. "Heroes on Both Sides" can be dated to 21 BBY since it occurs between two episodes, "ARC Troopers" and "Pursuit of Peace," that are also placed in 21 BBY by two other sources: The Official Star Wars Fact File Part 62 (21 BBY 17–18, Defense of Kamino) and The Official Star Wars Fact File Part 7 (KAT2, King Katuunko), respectively. Therefore, A Trooper's Tale must take place after the beginning of the Clone Wars, which The New Essential Chronology dates to 22 BBY, but no later than 21 BBY, the date of "Heroes on Both Sides."
