Homeworld Security Command, also known simply as Homeworld Security, was a unit that served as a branch of the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. The Homeworld Security Command primarily served on Coruscant, with the Coruscant Guard being the main force.

History[]

Homeworld Security Command was active by 22 BBY with the outbreak of the Clone Wars, where incidents of terrorism and domestic violence being a higher valid concern. After a bust of a Separatist terrorist cell by the Anti-Terrorism Unit and a group of Special Operations Brigade, the need for the Homeworld Security was highly apparent.[1]

Shortly after this event, the Coruscant Guard was formed by clone shock troopers and placed as one of the main units for the Homeworld Security Command,[2] under the command of Commander Fox.[3] Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine had planned this move prior to the public gaining this information, having the shock troopers, as well as the 501st Legion, being trained in the ways of law enforcement.[4]

However, in 19 BBY, when General Grievous attacked the planet of Coruscant, the Homeworld Security Command was caught off guard and while the Coruscant Home Fleet and the arriving Open Circle Fleet were gathering their forces, the unit enacted its emergency procedures.[2] While the Coruscant Security Force evacuated more vulnerable areas, the Coruscant Guard would attack the Separatist forces that were landing on the planet, alongside clone commando squads, such as Omega Squad and Yayax Squad, and additional forces.[5][6] After the battle was over, the Coruscant Guard was reinforced by the 501st Legion, who had returned to fight in the battle. Troopers would also be paired with CSF on any ridealongs to discourage any further issues.[5]

When Order 66 was issued, the major operation was cast on the shoulders of the Homeworld Security Command. As the 501st Legion purged the Jedi Temple in Operation: Knightfall, Palpatine had declared martial law.[7] Following the dissolving of the Republic, the Coruscant Guard was given much more precedence, as they were assigned to be the primary police force of Coruscant from that point onward, with the CSF acting as auxiliary backup.[8][9]
