This is a Class 3 article.

Jesse, or CT-5597, was a clone trooper who served in the Grand Army of the Republic's 501st Legion during the Clone Wars. Under the command of Captain Rex, he participated in the hunt for the infamous Separatist leader General Grievous on Saleucami, taking on leadership of Rex's squad after a crippling injury left the captain unconscious. He also fought during the Battle of Umbara, where the 501st came to be at odds with their Jedi General Pong Krell, and the Battle of Ringo Vinda, where the secret of Order 66 was nearly exposed.

A capable and reliable soldier, Jesse was promoted to an ARC trooper lieutenant sometime before the Battle of Anaxes. As the war approached its end, he was deployed with the 332nd Company to assist in the Siege of Mandalore, where he was tortured by Darth Maul for information. After the siege's victory, he was stationed on the Tribunal when Order 66 was initiated. He hunted former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano alongside the rest of the clones, and he took command of the unit after Rex's inhibitor chip was removed by Ahsoka. His troops were unable to kill Rex and Ahsoka, and he perished when the ship crashed on a moon. The pair recovered his body and buried it, his grave marked by his helmet.

Known for his sense of humor amid battle, Jesse often served directly with Rex as one of his most trusted men and took control in the officer's absence. He was fiercely patriotic and loyal to the Galactic Republic; the design that adorned his helmet and the tattoo on his face both bore the Republic's emblem.

History[]

Training of Ashoka[]

Jesse was involved in helping Tano with her lightsaber training. Seen in just plain white phase I amour, Jesse joined Skywalker, Rex, and several other clones from the 501st at the Republic Center for Military Operations to help Tano with her exercises. Skywalker directed the clones to form a ring around Tano and to fire stun blasts at her so she could practice defending herself. During the first run, Tano began to struggle, and Jesse's blast eventually stunned her, leaving her unconscious for a full hour. Jesse and the others stood around together and waited for Tano to wake up, and when the Padawan rose, Jesse shouted his apologies.

Battle of Mimban[]

A battalion of the 501st Legion, alongside the 224th, was deployed to fight early in the Clone Wars during the Battle of Mimban. The battle was initially led by Jedi General Laan Tik, though command fell to Senator Jar Jar Binks after Tik was killed in action. Being the most senior military leader, Captain Rex assigned Jesse to protect Binks as the Republic forces retreated. Back at base, Rex and his troops discussed their combat options. Jesse agreed with Hardcase that attacking the enemy's shield generator, which was three kilometers out, would be a suicide mission. Rex ordered them to contact command and mark their coordinates for an exfil shuttle. As Jesse and the rest of the troops organized their evacuation, Rex undertook the task of attacking the shield generator alone,[1] and presumably succeeded.[note 1]

Battle of Saleucami[]

In 21 BBY, Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi with Jesse and other clone troopers went to Saleucami to find General Grievous, who landed on the planet's surface after jettisoning his escape pod. Kenobi sent Captain Rex, Jesse, Kix and Hardcase to find the other escape pods, while himself, Cody and Crys stayed to investigate the remains of the crashed ship. Using BARC speeders, the troopers were unaware that two commando droids were waiting with sniper rifles to attack the clones. One of the droids shot Rex, knocking him off his BARC speeder. Jesse ordered Kix and Hardcase to use their speeders to protect Rex, while he rode over to where the shot had been fired. Jesse then used the blaster cannons on his speeder to fire at the droids, thus destroying them. When Jesse returned to where Rex and the other clones were, Kix informed Jesse that Rex's injuries were bad. Jesse then informed the team that the two droids might have called for backup and they should find shelter for Rex to heal. Jesse noticed some domesticated animals and decided that they were on a farmer's land and Kix took them in the direction of the farmer's homestead. After arriving at the farmer's home, Rex told Jesse that he should lead the search party. Jesse, Hardcase and Kix then left Rex to be tended to by the farmer's wife. Jesse and the rest of his troopers went back to Kenobi who reported him of what happened. [2]

Battle of Umbara[]

Jesse was later dispatched to the planet of Umbara under the command of Jedi Anakin Skywalker to retake the planet that was a part of the Republic and to capture its capital city. The clones had to fight many Umbaran military troops. Pong Krell came to inform Skywalker that he was needed elsewhere, thus leaving Krell in charge. Krell continued with the mission to take the capital city, but made poor military decisions, getting many of the clones killed. Continuing on to the capital city without stopping to rest, the troopers made their way to the capital city via a highway that led into the city itself. Unfortunately, there were mines on the ground, which several clones hit and killed them. The clones were then ambushed by Umbaran forces, and had to retreat. Kenobi informed Krell that he would be unable to take control of the capital city due to it being resupplied by a nearby airbase. Jesse informed his other troopers that he believed Krell was crazy due to his insane tactics. After securing the airbase, Jesse joined Fives and Hardcase in using Umbaran starfighters to take down a Confederate supply ship and succeeded, but with Hardcase sacrificing himself to complete the mission. [3] Fives and Jesse where nearly executed but were spared when the clone refused to carry out the order.

Battle of Ringo Vinda[]

Tiplar and Tiplee's unit, along with the 501st, then went to Coruscant, where several of the troopers went to the bar called 79's, Jesse included. There, he had a conversation with clone medic Kix. During that conversation, Kix left to the restroom, where ARC trooper Fives met with him and gave him some information. Kix returned to his conversation with Jesse. [4]

Battle for Anaxes[]

Jesse, as an Advanced Recon Commando, after the Battle of Anaxes.

In 19 BBY, Jesse became a Advanced Recon Commando sometime prior to the Battle for Anaxes and fought in the Battle for Anaxes along with the 501st Legion. When Jedi General Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker ordered Captain Rex and Commander Cody to form a small squad of clones. Rex recruited him and Kix to infiltrate the Separatists Cyber Center. Cody also recruited Clone Force 99. During their ride to the Cyber Center there LAAT Gunship was shot down and was attack by a legion of droids as Rex and Jesse watched in astonishment as The Bad Batch took them head on. They later then targeted the Center and attacked it and found a live signal of ARC Trooper Echo coming from Skako. [5]

Jesse was present at the planning of the attack on the Separatists assembly complex where he also participated in the combined attack on the complex. He was also present at the Republic victory celebration for the victory on Anaxes which he gave cheers for the Bad Batch.[6]

Siege of Mandalore[]

In 19 BBY, former Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano sought the assistance of Skywalker and Kenobi, in hopes of capturing the rogue Sith Lord Maul. However, due to political reasons, they could not directly intervene. Skywalker, however, in an attempt to assist, created a detachment of the 501st, called the 332nd Company, which saw Rex be promoted to Commander, with Captain Vaughn taking a new position. Jesse was also placed in this unit.[7] Shortly thereafter, the unit was deployed to the planet, with the clones deploying from Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunships, wielding jetpacks which allowed them to land with relative ease, though engaging Mandalorian supercommandos on the way down. Jesse, Rex, Vaughn, and a majority of the 332nd Company made it down with the assistance of the Nite Owls and Tano.[7]

Once the initial battle was won, Jesse, Sterling, and a unit of the company were tasked with securing C-deck. Maul, however, attacked the deck with his Mandalorian forces, wiping out a majority of the forces, save for Sterling who sustained a blaster wound to the chest. Maul took Jesse alive to question him. Despite Jesse's resolve, Maul used force manipulation to torment the information out of him, eventually telling Maul everything he needed to know.[8]

Tano, Rex, and Bo-Katan, the Nite Owls leader, returned to the throne room, which had been acting as a command center since their initial win of the city, where they encountered Maul sitting on the throne and Jesse on his knees. Maul released Jesse, which led to Rex removing from the situation. Jesse mentioned that Maul broke him and apologized before Rex led him to safety.[8]

Order 66[]

After Ahsoka Tano and the 332nd Company liberated Mandalore, Jesse was present on Tano's Venator-class Star Destroyer when Order 66 was executed.[9] After learning that Rex was MIA, Jesse led the troopers aboard the ship in a hunt for Ahsoka. Jesse later gained intelligence that Rex was assisting Tano. Jesse and the troopers confronted Ahsoka and Rex in the Venator's shuttle bay. Jesse accused Rex of violating Order 66 and threatened to have him demoted from his rank of Commander. Jesse and the other troopers engaged Ahsoka and Rex, who eventually escaped in a Y-Wing. Jesse, 332nd Company, and the remaining forces aboard the Venator, were all killed in the crash landing on the surface of an unknown moon. Jesse, along with his fallen brothers, were buried by Ashoka and Rex on the surface of the moon among the rubble of the crash. The troopers were given a memorial with their helmets arranged atop of stakes at the heads of their graves.[10]

Armor and Equipment[]

Jesse in his Phase II armor

Jesse started the war with Phase I armor, which had pastel blue shoulder plates and stripes on his visor and chest plate to represent the 501st. Most notably, he had the Republic's cog-shaped emblem painted in black on the top of his helmet, matching his facial tattoo.

By the Battle of Umbara, Jesse had switched to Phase II armor, this time bearing the patterns of his Phase I armor in a deep blue. The Republic symbol remained on his helmet, and his leg and knee plates were also painted black and blue.

After being promoted, Jesse wore updated ARC trooper armor. It featured the same blue and black design as his Phase II armor, with the addition of the back of his helmet being painted blue. He had additional chest and forearm plates, as well as multiple ammunition pouches and a backpack. He wore a blue and white double shoulder pauldron and a black and white kama.

Jesse rode a BARC speeder on reconnaissance missions and carried a DC-15S blaster carbine in battle. As an ARC trooper, Jesse carried a pair of DC-17 blaster pistols in holsters on his kama, which he would duel wield as a backup to his rifle.

Other[]

Although he is referred to as a lieutenant in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars show, Jesse's StarWars.com Databank profile calls him "Clone Commander Jesse". This is most likely an error, as Jesse is repeatedly shown taking orders from Rex and never displays direct leadership duties alongside a Jedi General.

Notes[]

  1. Rex proceeds to attack the droid forces near the shield generator solo until Jar Jar Binks comes to assist him. As both Jar Jar and Rex appear in events after Mimban, it can be presumed that they succeeded.
