Clone HWS Phase II
This is a Class 2 article.

Clone heavy weapons specialists, also known as clone heavy gunners, were one subdivision of the Grand Army of the Republic's heavy weapons special units. The specialists were often equipped with missile launchers and Z-6 rotary blaster cannon.

History[]

During the Clone Wars, heavy gunners could work alongside a clone medic and a clone paratrooper that served as a sniper. In 22 BBY, during the first battle of the Clone Wars, the First Battle of Geonosis, heavy gunners were deployed alongside the other clone troopers of the Grand Army to engage the Separatist's battle droids and their Geonosian allies. Later in the Clone Wars in 19 BBY, at least one heavy gunner fought in the Battle of Kashyyyk.[1] Several heavy weapons specialists were present during the Battle of Utapau, working with the 212th Attack Battalion, when Order 66 was initiated.[2] Three heavy weapons specialists were tasked with executing former Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, Kenobi managed to kill them in self-defense.[2] Soon thereafter, during Operation: Knightfall, heavy weapons specialists were deployed alongside the 501st Legion into the Jedi Temple to destroy artifacts and statues dedicated to sacred religion. Following the end of the Clone Wars and the birth of the Galactic Empire, the heavy weapons specialists were reassigned to serve as Imperial shock troopers before the clones were eventually decommissioned.[2]

Armor and Equipment[]

Clone HWS Phase I

The heavy weapons specialists were often equipped with heavier duty armor than standard clone troopers. Some specialists bore a pauldron and Kama with a blue trim, whereas some were equipped with additional plates that resembled Clone gunner armor.[1][2] These clone troopers were armed with some of the most powerful explosives and weapons in the army's arsenal, including missiles, grenades, demolition charges, and other heavy weaponry like cannons. Their main weapons were the largest ever designed to be used by clone troopers. They sported some missiles on their belts as well as some targeting range goggles on their forehead and equipped with an communication device including some thick shoulder/sharp knee guards. They had three pouches on the front of their belt. The boots they wore looked more refined and they carried an unidentified-brand of missile launchers.[2]
