The 91st Reconnaissance Corps was comprised of of clone and ARF troopers in divisions, such as Lightning Squadron. They were led by Jedi General Mace Windu, and fought in the Battle of Ryloth[1] and Battle for Anaxes.[2] They later fought under Master Adi Gallia and Stass Allie.
Comprising divisions of clone troopers, BARC troopers, and ARF troopers the 91st Reconnaissance Corps was led by Clone Marshal Commander Neyo. Aside from BARC speeders, the corps utilized AT-AP walkers, AT-RT walkers, as well as Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry, to deliver troops to the battlefield and provide air support. The elite cavalry unit Lightning Squadron was part of the 91st Reconnaissance Corps.
History[]
Siege of the Tambor Deep Space Centre[]
Sometime in 22 or 21 BBY,[note 1] the 91st under Ponds was deployed with Commander Cody, Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi to attack the Tambor Deep Space Centre, a warship repair workshop. The Republic forces encountered heavy losses through the Separatists' stiff resistance, and in an attmept to break the Security Complex, the entirety of a squadron under the command of Sergeant Swift was killed. However, the troops raised a white flag to signal a false surrender, tricking the droid forces into exposing themselves. The Republic forces ambushed the unsuspecting droid units and captured the station.[3]
Other battles[]
During the early years of the Clone Wars, The Republic sent Generals Windu and Kenobi, along with their units: the 91st Mobile Reconnaissance Corps, commanded by Commander Ponds; and the 212th Attack Battalion, commanded by Commander Cody. General Windu with the unit successfully took the planet and captured Wat Tambor.[1]
Later in the war, General Windu and Commander Ponds were sent with the 91st Mobile Reconnaissance Corps was sent alongside the 501st Legion, commanded by Gereral Skywalker and Captain Rex. After dropping an electro-proton bomb on the battlefield which disabled the entire droid force, it caused a quake which uncovered a massive Zillo Beast under the surface. The Dugs wanted it killed so the Republic secretly transported it to Coruscant for it to be studied but had to eventually kill it after it broke free from its cage and caused havoc and destruction on Coruscant. The two units successfully won the battle, albeit with heavy casualties.
Near the end of the war, Windu lead the 91st in the Battle for Anaxes to reclaim the Republic Ship yards from Admiral Trench and the Separatist forces. [2]
Commander Neyo's troops were part of the multi-division task force led by Jedi General Oppo Rancisis on Saleucami during the Outer Rim Sieges. Elements of the 91st Reconnaissance Corps fought in the ensuing battle, and remained planetside in the aftermath to scout out remaining pockets of Separatist or Morgukai resistance.
Commander Neyo and his Recon Corps were led by Jedi Master Stass Allie during their patrols of the Saleucami plains.[4] After receiving Order 66 from Emperor Palpatine, Neyo and his men turned on their Jedi General, Stass Allie. Neyo and his wingman, CT-3423, opened fire on Allie's speeder bike, killing her in the resulting explosion.[4]
The 91st's Lightning Squadron later served in the Ryoone Campaign during the Galactic Civil War against the Churhee's Riflemen, who represented the Rebel Alliance.
